The AMD drivers got a major update with 10.13.2 hence why I've opened up this thread and so hoping that things will be improving soon. But currently it doesn't look like it's going to work with Blender 😀 Hope I'm not thanks for your insight.

It's sad and funny that Apple markets the new iMac Pro as a machine also for 3D.

If nothing changes in OpenCL, AMD regard till early January, I'll get a recent nVidia card and hope that when egpu becomes official, nvidia will also be official.

So maybe my problems ar related to Web driver not compatible with such old card. I haven't heard anything about these kind of problems from someone with 10xx nvidia card. And last thing - my 660Ti after a while of using becomes 2x slower - goes into some kind of power save mode I think. Then there was also problem rendering some textures in Blender viewport. Downside is - I got artifacts when tried to work with big Photoshop file. But I have tested my old 660TI and the render time was exactly the same when card is in my Win 10 PC. I currently don't have a recent nVidia card, because I'm also hoping something changes with AMD / OpenCL support. If the main reason for eGPU in your Mac is Blender I'd give nVidia a go. There are Macs with legit GPUs out there for a while and they're called Mac Pro - they have AMD Firepro cards and till this day they can't unleash full potential in Blender. However I don't understand why Indigo render and Prorender works on Mac then. They've had it great up to now and the iMac Pro is out today and that has the AMD VEGA so hopefully now is the time for any 3D users still on Mac to have decent Blender render times using AMD as far as I have searched through forums, currently AMD cards are not possible to work full speed with Cycles because Apple OpenCL drivers doesn't work same way as Windows (Some devs say they're outdated). I think the NVIDIA side needs a different thread. If there's anyone out there with an iMac 5k 27 inch with the Radeon RX 580 8GB (top spec model) that would be an identical GPU to my eGPU I'd love to see how OpenCL on Blender is working with an official Apple setup.īut any recent Apple machines with AMD cards running Blender using GPU Compute OpenCL with eGPU or dGPU would be amazing. I think we can use that as a good baseline for the BMW GPU score. Time for an AMD Radeon RX 480 on the official benchmark is 3 minutes flat. If you've got a Mac setup please give the BMW benchmarks ( ) a go and post up results.

Thanks Those are the benchmarks and posts I've been looking at and exactly WHY I bought the eGPU setup but I'm not getting anything near that yet.
